Virgil van Dijk has suggested he would be open to joining Liverpool in the January transfer window if the club can persuade Southampton to sell.
The Netherlands international was one of Jurgen Klopp’s top targets for the summer, although reports claimed last month that Liverpool did not submit an official offer during the transfer window.
Liverpool were also forced to issue a public apology to Southampton after details of Klopp’s pursuit of the central defender were made public.
Van Dijk, meanwhile, handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move but Southampton stood firm, even after Chelsea registered their interest in the latter stages of the window.
But Van Dijk has indicated that he is still looking to leave St Mary’s. ‘I’m glad I’m fit again and I can give up 100 percent,’ he told Fox Sport.
‘I’m not sorry for anything. ‘Of course, I wanted to make a step up, but Southampton did not want me to sell me, but you’re a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club. ‘Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.’
