Simon Mignolet is not entertaining thoughts of a move away from Liverpool, but has stressed that he is not enjoying sitting on the bench at Anfield.
The Belgian started the season as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper, but he lost his place to new signing Loris Karius towards the end of September and has not played a league game since then.
And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has shown little indication over the last few weeks to suggest that Mignolet will return to the starting eleven despite Karius’ uneven performances.
The Belgian is not enjoying his time outside the team, but stressed that he is not entertaining thoughts of a move at the moment and wants to focus on winning his place back in the side.
When asked whether he would leave Liverpool if the situation doesn’t change soon, Mignolet told Limburg TV: “It’s not right [to suggest that]; that’s for the future.
“I am fully focused on Liverpool.”
However, the goalkeeper made it clear he will not accept sitting on the bench for too long and is desperate to displace Karius in the Liverpool starting eleven.
He said: “I’ve never been on the bench in my career; I don’t want that, I won’t accept it either.
“I will keep fighting to return as the first choice goalkeeper.”
Klopp has praised Mignolet’s professional attitude since he lost his spot in the side.
