Why Liverpool should absolutely ignore van Dijk and move in for this Bundesliga star

Liverpool have come a long way under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp but it’s fair to say that their defensive ranks need improving, as there isn’t a member of their back-line who stands out as one of the best in the Premier League.

The rest of Reds’ top-six rivals can all boast a player up there as the Premier League’s finest in defence but the Klopp’s push for success is seriously impacted by their lack in this area, with defensive frailty proving to be a sewing motif of his reign at Anfield.

While Virgil van Dijk is the name on everybody’s lips this month, Liverpool would have to pay over the odds to sign the Dutch defender and compete with their mega-rich rivals, which could push the figure beyond what would be deemed a fair price.AdTech Ad

Instead, Klopp should look to his former storming ground of the Bundesliga as Bayer Leverkusen boast a player who would be the perfect fit for his side, 20-year-old Jonathan Tah.

Though the youngster has stated he’s happy at the club and is unlikely to move this month, the Kop titans should make Tah their number one priority for the summer as he is a sensational talent and could shine at Anfield for the next decade.

Turning 21 next month, Tah already boasts three appearances for Germany’s national side and is a regular for Bayer Leverkusen, with experience in the Champions League for the Bundesliga outfit.

With Bayer currently sat ninth in the Bundesliga heading into the second-half of the season and eight points off the top-four, the club may not have Champions League football next term and that could play into Liverpool’s hands.

The Reds look on course to secure a return to Europe’s elite competition next season and Tah would be wise to consider a move, especially as Jurgen Klopp would be a strong factor in the youngster’s development.
