What Zeljko Buvac did in dressing room at HT in his last match at Liverpool [Times]

Liverpool are set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp will be without his long-time assistant manager Zeljko Buvac, who has taken leave from the club due to ‘personal reasons’.

The Liverpool managerial duo – who had worked together for 17 years – parted ways in April ahead of their Champions League fixture against Roma.

Buvac reportedly fell out with Klopp and it appears increasingly unlikely that he’ll return for the 2018/19 season.

“I am not on my own,” insisted the German manager recently. “I have still a lot of people around me, Peter Krawietz and Andreas Kornmayer’s team.

“So I am not alone. Nobody needs to worry about that.”

Klopp is focusing on the Real Madrid game for now but he’ll certainly have to re-organise his coaching staff over the summer.

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Stoke City in the Premier League on April 28.

Buvac, 56, was on the Anfield touchline that day – but he was gone just two days later.

The Times have now revealed what the Bosnian coach did in the dressing room at half-time in his final game working with Klopp.

As per The Times, “Buvac had become increasingly distant and at half-time of the draw against Stoke City last month he did not even study the half-time video clips with Klopp as normal, choosing instead to sit on his own in another part of the dressing room.”

It sounds like his relationship with Klopp had completely broken down.

Buvac was dubbed the “brains” of Klopp’s operation and has worked alongside the Liverpool manager ever since he began coaching in 2001.

“I’ve made a lot of good decisions in my career as manager,” Klopp had previously said, as per Goal.

“But the best one was appointing Buvac as coach – he’s the best coach I’ve ever known. He’s the one I’ve learned the most from. We’re like an old married couple, and that’s sensational.”
