It’s official: Mohamed Salah simply isn’t human.
Not in a Liverpool fan’s wildest dream would they have foreseen their team racing into a 5-0 first leg lead against AS Roma in their Champions League semi-final last night. And, it’s fair to say Salah played quite the role in the rout.
Roma did pull two goals back virtue of Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti but it shouldn’t take away from what must be seen as one of the greatest semi-final performances of recent years.
After a tense opening 25 minutes, Liverpool began to dominate with Sadio Mane missing two brilliant opportunities and being denied a goal by the linesman’s flag.
Then, Salah came into his own and gave Alisson a taste of what was to come with a sweet left-footed effort that was beaten away by the Brazilian.
SALAH DOMINATED V AS ROMA
Fast forward to the 35th minute, though, and Alisson couldn’t get close to Salah’s next attempt on goal.
While the Egyptian’s second was impressive in itself – a deft chip after Roberto Firmino’s perfect through ball – it was his opener that will take pride of place on the showreel.
Firmino burst forward into the final third, slipped his pass behind Radja Nainggolan and Salah picked up the ball on the fringes of the penalty area.
SALAH EVEN STUNNED THE STEWARD
Cutting inside, he shaped an inch-perfect shot into the far top corner and, as if for aesthetic value, clattered it into the net via the crossbar.
It was a moment of magic and one that sent Anfield into absolute raptures.
From Jurgen Klopp to the supporters to Steven Gerrard in the BT Sport studio, everyone was blown away and that feeling even spread to the stewarding staff.
Twitter couldn’t help being amused by the perfect reaction of a Liverpool steward directly behind the net when Salah found the top corner. Frankly, it says it all – take a look:

@PoetsCornerUK The reaction of the steward behind Alisson is the perfect summary of Salah's goal! Pure filth man..

The steward couldn’t believe their eyes!
It was a magical strike from a player in the form of his life and we’re sure the official will feel no shame in breaking their steely concentration for such a special goal.
Liverpool will now hope that Salah can transport his immaculate form over to Rome next week as the Reds look to secure their place in the final.
A clean sheet at Anfield would have booked them a ticket to Kiev already, but they need to be wary of their opponents after their quarter-final antics against Barcelona.
Unleash Salah one-on-one with their defence, though, and something tells us they’ll be an away goal to savour.
