Virgil van Dijk makes Premier League and Champions League promise to Liverpool fans

Virgil van Dijk has promised that Liverpool will ‘challenge until the end’ as they bid to lift the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

The Reds are top of the Premier League table and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so a historic double is still on for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool have a fight on their hands in both competitions, with Manchester City just two points behind them with a game in hand, domestically, and seven other dangerous teams left in Europe.

However, Van Dijk could not be happier with where his side are at the moment.

‘With Liverpool, we are where we want to be. Everything is positive,’ said the Dutchman. ‘We are in the race for the Premier League, and in the race for the Champions League.

‘It is going to be very tough but we will challenge until the end in both of those competitions.’

Liverpool take on Porto in the last eight of the Champions League, which was seen by many as a favourable draw, when they could have been handed the likes of Barcelona, Juventus or Manchester City.

However, Van Dijk is certainly not going to dismiss the challenge of the Portuguese side.

‘People are saying that Porto is the easiest draw ever – but they are a very difficult team to play against.

‘They are not in the quarter-finals for no reason, and we have to be ready for them.’

The Reds return to Premier League action on Sunday at home to Tottenham and play the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Anfield on Tuesday 9 April.
