Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn’t exactly hit the ground running at Liverpool.
The Englishman swapped the Emirates for Anfield after his spell at Arsenal ran cold and his appearances were reduced to cameos at wing back.
He even rejected a deadline day approach from champions Chelsea to ensure his move to Merseyside, with the deal confirmed at £35 million.
His last game with the Gunners had been a 4-0 thrashing to Liverpool and his debut at his new club followed a similar pattern – a gut-wrenching 5-0 drubbing by Manchester City.
Since that day, both Liverpool and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s form has taken a turn for the worse. The Englishman has yet to make a start in the Premier League as the Manchester sides increase the deficit.
Furthermore, when given a start in the Carabao Cup against Leicester City, his performance left a lot to be desired.
Nevertheless, with Jurgen Klopp’s men were chasing a winning goal at Newcastle United this weekend, Oxlade-Chamberlain was introduced for his pace and ingenuity.
He had six minutes to make himself the hero and the perfect opportunity arrived for him.
Philippe Coutinho looped a brilliant ball into the penalty area on the volley with Oxlade-Chamberlain meeting the header under pressure from eight yards out.
The 24-year-old made terrible contact with the ball, ballooning it over the bar with less of a diving header and more of a salmon dive. Take a look below:

You’ve got to say, this was Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chance to silence the haters and climb into the Liverpool starting XI all in one go.
The Englishman has always been criticised for his finishing and only scored line league goals in 132 outings for Arsenal.
It seems the advice of Klopp has done little to amend that.
