Glen Johnson’s potential shock transfer from Stoke City to Barcelona has the backing of his former Liverpool colleague Luis Suarez.
The Uruguay international is known to be a big admirer of the former England right-back, having played alongside him for three and a half seasons at Anfield.
Johnson, 32, is now a surprise target for Barcelona as they eye a short-term signing to solve their issues on the right-hand side of defence.
The Catalan giants have been dismayed by the form of Aleix Vidal since the summer departure of Dani Alves, with manager Luis Enrique opting to play central midfielder Sergi Roberto out of position in that role.
Barca have not shied away from some surprise signings of ageing players in the past, enjoying tremendous success when they brought in Henrik Larsson from Celtic at the age of 32.
Johnson is now one of their main targets to come in at right-back, and Suarez has apparently given the club his backing for the move, according to the Daily Mail.
