LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson will be ‘hurting’ after Jurgen Klopp dropped him for tonight’s Champions League match with Spartak Moscow.
That’s the opinion of Reds hero Steven Gerrard who thinks the England international would have been desperate to play.
Liverpool went into the clash knowing a win would see them top Champions League Group E but a loss could see them eliminated from the competition.
But their nerves were settled early on when Philippe Coutinho netted from the penalty spot.
The Brazilian added a second before Roberto Firmino made it 3-0 after just 18 minutes.
Of Henderson Gerrard told BT Sport: “Yeah, I’m sure it will (hurt him). As a player you want to play on these big nights, these big occasions.
“But I think all of the Liverpool players have been buying into the Jurgen Klopp way of late.
“That is to make two or three changes every game and rotate and freshen the team up.
“I didn’t like that as a player, I wanted to play every game, especially as captain, you want to be the first name on the team-sheet.
“So I’m sure Jordan is hurting a little bit but I’m sure he will understand if they get the right result.”
Liverpool will now look ahead to the Champions League last-16 draw which takes place on Monday at 11am.
