LIVERPOOL need to bring in fresh blood from back to front this summer.
At least that’s the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson in the wake of the Reds sealing their Champions League return.
Liverpool secured their qualification for next season’s competition with an impressive 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Sunday.
And Anfield chiefs are now expected to sanction deals worth more than £100m combined ahead of that European football comeback.
Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of talent, with swoops for Virgil Van Dijk, Ryan Sessegnon and Timo Werner touted.
And Merson thinks Jurgen Klopp needs to secure signings in defence, midfield and attack to improve his squad.
He said: “They will need a full-back firstly. I think James Milner has been great but he’s not a full-back for me and they’ll have the Champions League to deal with.
“I think they need another centre-half unless they bite the bullet with Mamadou Sakho and bring him back because he’s been outstanding for [Crystal] Palace.
“Then they probably need a centre-forward in my opinion, somebody who is going to be a physical presence and hold the ball up and be a focal point. They’ve got talent behind but they need that sort of player up front for me.”
Liverpool need to come through a qualifier to book a place in the Champions League group stage.
And Klopp will hope he can get any new signings bedded in before that to help his side’s cause.
