Liverpool have performed well on the whole so far this season, and currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, three points behind league leaders Chelsea.
One particular area of concern for Jürgen Klopp, however, must be the left-back position, with Alberto Moreno quite clearly not suited to the German’s vision, and despite James Milner filling in admirably, he never has been, or never will be a full-back.
Should the Reds make a move for Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi in January?
The 22-year-old Frenchman returned to action this season, following a lengthly spell on the sidelines due to a serious injury last term, and seems to have come back a better, stronger player.
Amavi is quick, possesses the ability to time his overlapping runs to perfection, and would fit perfectly into Klopp’s philosophy of how the game should be played.
He moved to Villa Park in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £7.7 million, and has since gone on to make 29 appearances for the Midlands outfit.
The France under-21 international’s contract at Villa Park does not expire until the summer of 2020, so it will most probably take a fairly substantial offer from Liverpool for them to stand any chance of prising him away from Villa.
And with the January transfer window just around the corner, the Reds should flex their financial muscle and test Villa’s resolve with a bid for Amavi.
