Liverpool announced their third signing of the summer on Friday night with the arrival of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City.
Jurgen Klopp triggered the £13 million release clause for the 26-year-old after the Potters were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Despite playing in a struggling Stoke side, Shaqiri was the club’s top goalscorer with eight goals and he will bring some much-needed depth to Liverpool’s frontline.
After officially being announced as Liverpool’s next arrival following Naby Keita and Fabinho, Shaqiri spoke of his joy at signing for a “huge club.”
“As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football,” he said.
“A few years ago I wanted to come too but it didn’t happen. I’m really happy that now I’m finally here. I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles.
“It’s a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach. So I’m really glad and happy to be here.”
Shaqiri has been handed the number 23 shirt – a shirt that used to be worn by club legend Jamie Carragher.

And after seeing Shaqiri don his old shirt number, Carragher had a little message for Liverpool’s latest recruit.
Carragher wrote: “Score as many as me in the 23 & you’ll be a bargain. Look after it Shaq.”

So Shaqiri just needs to score five goals for Liverpool to be considered a bargain. Seems pretty easy.
