Sami Hyypia: This will help Liverpool in summer transfer window

Sami Hyypia believes qualifying for the Champions League this season will help Liverpool attract better players in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool currently sit in fourth place and only one point above rivals Arsenal with one game to play in the Premier League on Sunday.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, former Reds captain Hyypia believes being able to offer Champions League football next season will be a huge boost in their pursuit of summer recruits.

“I think every player wants to play in the Champions League, and of course it’s important for the future as well,” Hyypia said.

“In the summer the club will want to sign new players and it’s always a positive thing that you can say to a player ‘we are in the Champions League next year’.”

Jurgen Klopp is likely to enter the transfer window this summer in order to bolster both the depth of his side and a number of problem positions ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

In order to offer Champions League football, the Reds must earn three points against Middlesbrough at Anfield on Sunday.

If they fail to secure their 22nd league win of the season, they must rely on Arsenal dropping points against seventh-placed Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds will be hoping to secure a repeat of the reverse fixture against Middlesbrough that saw the Merseyside giants win 3-0 at the Riverside back in December.
