Report names the Liverpool player Tottenham Hotspur didn’t sign due to wage demands

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will face each other in the Premier League this weekend. The two sides will lock horns with each other at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Sadio Mane is likely to start for Liverpool against the North London outfit. The 24-year-old winger has been one of the best players in the league this season and has established himself as a key figure in the current Reds’ team.

The 24-year-old joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £34 million.

However, according to The Times, Tottenham could have secured the services of the Senegal international winger in the summer of 2016. It has been reported that the wages of Mane were too high for Spurs.

“Tottenham Hotspur came so close to signing Sadio Mané last summer that the Senegal forward visited the club’s training ground to discuss a transfer from Southampton,” states the report in The Times.

“Mauricio Pochettino was unable to convince the club to meet his wage demands so he signed for Liverpool, who entertain Tottenham tonight.”

Mane has scored nine goals and created 37 chances in 21 Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season.

During the 2015-16 campaign, the Senegal international winger scored 11 goals and crated 41 chances in 37 league matches for the Reds.
