According to a report from Foot Mercato, Liverpool are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid’s Angel Correa this summer, with the Reds willing to offer the 22-year-old a five-year contract at Anfield.
The report also states that Liverpool would be willing to pay the player £2.4million a year as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Correa is predominantly a right winger although he can play anywhere across the front line, including as a secondary striker or a centre forward, and his versatility could be exactly why Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is so keen to do a deal.
The Argentina international featured 47 times for Atletico last season, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in the process.
In total he has 16 goals and 15 assists in 83 outings for the La Liga giants and his arrival would be quite a coup for Liverpool.
While discussions between all parties are said to have taken place, Liverpool are yet to make a formal bid for the player, with Atletico reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of £24.7million.
That would be a relatively hefty outlay, but if Correa can replicate his best form in England he would go down a storm at Anfield.
Liverpool have already added Mohamed Salah to their ranks yet it seems Klopp is not done there.
