Liverpool made a £26m bid for pacey Lazio winger Keita Balde Diao before completing the signing of Roma’s Mohamed Salah, according to reports from Italy.
With pace on the wings seemingly a priority for the Reds who suffered from Sadio Mane’s absence due to injury and AFCON, there were reports that Keita – Mane’s international teammate – was under serious consideration despite Liverpool’s pursuit of Salah.

Italian paper Corriere dello Sport, via Team Talk, claimed Jurgen Klopp had gone as far as submitting a bid in the region of £26m for the Lazio star – who would also be absent when the next AFCON comes around.
The Senegal international bagged 16 goals and provided three assists for the Italian club in 34 appearances last season, and was apparently open to the possibility of making the move to the red half of Merseyside.
Keita’s fourth year at the senior level in Serie A proved to be very successful as the 22-year-old showcased his versatility. Keita is a natural left-winger but flourished as a supporting striker with a role also required on the right flank during the season.
However, Liverpool opted to sign Salah from Roma for a reported £39m on Thursday which reportedly left Keita disappointed that a deal failed to materialise.
The 22-year-old will not be without suitors however following an impressive season which saw the winger play a vital role in the Lazio side who qualified for the Europa League after finishing fifth in Serie A last term.
A move to Liverpool could still be possible but there are also links to a move to AC Milan and Juventus, who he could end up joining on a free transfer upon his current contract expiring in the summer of 2018.
