Real Madrid prepare stunning £36m offer for Liverpool huge flop

Real Madrid are considering a £36million move for Iago Aspas as their search for a new forward continues, according to reports in Spain.

The 31-year-old has rebuilt his career in La Liga following a disastrous spell at Liverpool, during which he failed to score a single Premier League goal and is, perhaps, best remembered for the corner which led to Chelsea’s decisive goal in a 2-0 defeat which effectively ended his old club’s hopes of a first title in over two decades.

Aspas joined Sevilla on loan before returning to Celta Vigo where he has averaged over a goal every other game in La Liga since 2015, form which earned him a place in the Spain World Cup squad this summer.

Real Madrid are hoping to strengthen their attack ahead of the August 31 European transfer deadline, but their hopes of signing a headline replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo are growing increasingly remote.

Reports on Thursday claimed the European champions were set to make a last-ditch effort to sign PSG’s World Cup sensation Kylian Mbappe but are drafting up a list of more modest alternatives.

Real have considered Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno, who started his career at the Bernaebeu, but their Liga rivals are said to be demanding his €140 release clause in full.

Aspas represents a far cheaper alternative and, given he is able to play across the forward line, would provide experienced back-up to the likes of Gareth Bale, Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio.
