Danny Murphy says Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho would find it too difficult to resist a move to Barcelona if the La Liga giants were interested this summer.
The Brazil international enjoyed one of his best seasons at Anfield since his move from Inter Milan in 2013 this term after an impressive return of 13 goals and seven assists in 31 games in the Premier League.
Coutinho has produced some excellent football under his current manager Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool number 10 played a key role in helping the Merseyside to finish in the top four.
The Brazilian has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona in the summer despite Liverpool securing a return to the Champions League thanks to their position in the Premier League table.
Coutinho insisted earlier this month that he was planning to remain at Anfield and didn’t want to become “just another player” at Barcelona or Real Madrid.
But former Liverpool star Murphy believes Coutinho would find it very hard to turn down Barcelona.
“Will Philippe Coutinho still be a Liverpool player next season?” Murphy wrote in his Evening Standard column.
“Put it this way: if Barcelona come in for him, I doubt he would even consider giving it another year at Anfield.
“I don’t know Coutinho but I would be surprised if he had grown up a die-hard Liverpool fan.
“He will be thankful for the platform Liverpool have given him but like most players, I imagine he would find it hard to resist the lure of Barcelona.”
