Pundit: Jurgen Klopp deserves big Liverpool summer signings

Chris Sutton believes Jurgen Klopp will need to spend big money in the summer transfer window if he wants to take Liverpool to the next level.

The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and four points above Arsenal, who are leading the chasing pack.

Liverpool were 4-0 winners against West Ham United at the London Stadium thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi in east London.

The Merseyside outfit signed seven players in the summer transfer window, including the expensive additions of Southampton winger Sadio Mane and Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool will have to beat Middlesbrough in their final Premier League game of the 2016-17 season as the Reds looks to end a three-game winless run at Anfield in the English top flight.

The Reds have been linked with a big-money deal to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, while Klopp has been linked with a host of other players ahead of a potential return to Champions League.

Speaking to BBC Sport’s 606 podcast about Liverpool’s potential transfer activity in the summer, former Chelsea striker Sutton said:

“Klopp has got a top-four finish. He has earned the right. It’s time now he spends big if Liverpool want to go to that next level.”

Liverpool finished in eighth place in Klopp’s first season in charge at Anfield.
