West Bromwich Albion are keen on securing the services of Mamadou Sakho on loan in January, according to the Liverpool Echo.
A key player in central defence last season for the Reds, Sakho has been forced to watch from the sidelines after failing a drugs test during the latter stages of last season and his spat with Jurgen Klopp in pre-season resulted in him being banished to play in the under-23s team.
The France international has been roundly considered a cult figure on the Kop, however the formulation of Dejan Lovren and Joel Maptip as Klopp’s first choice centre-back partnership, plus Liverpool’s hot form has seen his reputation and calls to be back into the first team diminish.
The former PSG defender has not featured in the Liverpool XI since April and it is highly unlikely that he still has a future on Merseyside.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis is desperate to strengthen his defensive stocks and believes Sakho could be the perfect option to replace 36-year-old Gareth McAuley, if a loan deal eventuated in a long-term deal.
