Arsenal have seen off competition from Chelsea and Liverpool to snatch Nigerian wonderkid Lateef Omidiji Jr, according to reports.
Omidiji Jr is currently with Sparta Rotterdam but his impressive displays for the Dutch outfit have caught the attention of a number of elite European clubs.
It’s understood Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool were monitoring the progress of the promising Omidiji Jr but the Gunners have won the race for the 13-year-old forward.
‘Chelsea came as well, so did Liverpool, to try and build a relationship early but Arsenal came with an offer that could not be turned down,’ a source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
It’s understood the youngster will travel to north London for training a couple of times a year while Arsenal coaches track his development in the Netherlands.
The teenager will be hoping to convince the Gunners to offer him a deal once he’s old enough to sign a professional contract.
Omidiji Jr has been nicknamed ‘the new Memphis Depay’ in the Netherlands, despite the latter’s underwhelming spell with Manchester United.
