Philippe Coutinho has declared the Premier League the best – comments that will ease fears among Liverpool fans amid talk of a transfer to Barcelona.
The Brazil international has been persistently linked with a move to the Nou Camp with some reports suggesting the Catalan club will move for him this summer.
Just this week Spanish newspaper SPORT claimed Coutinho was Barcelona’s primary target this summer and that the player’s agent Kia Joorabchian had met with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu to discuss a move. However it seems Coutinho believes he is already playing in the best league in the world. He made the comments ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Southampton on Sunday.
‘Southampton are a great team with great players,’ he told Liverpool’s official website. ‘When you watch them playing, you can see they are a very good team.
‘But it is not only them, the Premier League is all like that – whether it’s the team that leads the league or the team at the bottom, they’re all good teams. They all give tough games and this is why the Premier League is the top league.
‘The world stops to watch the Premier League and this is the reason why.’
Victory for Liverpool on Sunday would go a long way to securing Champions League qualification. Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently four points clear of fifth place Manchester United, but have played a game more.
‘It will be a very hard game for us, very difficult, but we need to go after the three points from the start,’ added Coutinho.
