‘Ooh, unlucky’ – Liverpool fans loved Van Dijk’s reaction to being told Man Utd loss 1-0

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk enjoyed a successful return to St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon, with Jurgen Klopp’s side running out 2-0 winners.

Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored early goals to pile the pressure on Mauricio Pellegrino’s relegation-threatened side.

The win took Liverpool up to third in the Premier League table, just two points behind rivals Manchester United.

Klopp was far from ecstatic with his team’s performance at Southampton – and refuses to believe that Arsenal are out the race for top four.

“It was not a brilliant performance, not everything worked quite well, the wind was quite strange,” Klopp told BBC Sport. “It was difficult circumstances and we did the job. That is very important.

“We scored early, got the second goal in the right moment and then controlled the game.

“We don’t have normal weekends anymore. We want to finish the season top four and we need the points. I don’t think nine points from Arsenal is enough to have rest but it is nine points. There is a lot to go for and we will try to carry on like today.”

Signed for £75m in January, the Dutch defender quickly became a fan favourite with a debut winning goal in the FA Cup against Everton.

He secured his first clean sheet in Liverpool colours on Sunday and he was interviewed by LFC TV after the game.

The interviewer informed Van Dijk that Man United had lost 1-0 to Newcastle earlier in the day.

Possibly because of Lucas Leiva’s famous ‘unlucky’ catchphrase, Liverpool fans on social media were absolutely loving how Van Dijk reacted to news of Manchester United’s defeat.

They love him already.
