Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United look set to battle it out over a deal for Real Madrid attacking-midfielder Marco Asensio, after a report from Dario Gol claimed that the Reds had launched a bid.
What’s the word?
After reports claimed that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United had lodged their own bid for the 21-year-old, it now seems Jurgen Klopp and the powers that be at Anfield are doing the same.
The £43m-rated Madrid man has enjoyed a good season under Zinedine Zidane, scoring ten and setting up another four, and even made an appearance in the Champions League final win over Juventus.
It may be a tough deal to land for Liverpool, with reports claiming that Mourinho is a big fan of the youngster and has told Ed Woodward and Co. to do all they can to engineer a deal.
Would it be a big loss?
Should Klopp lose out to his Portuguese counterpart at Old Trafford, would it really be the most worrying of losses?
Not really, no. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has a penchant for signing attacking-midfielders and, whilst depth is needed this summer in order to compete in the Champions League as well as at home, his ranks are pretty much full in that department.
As opposed to getting drawn into a bidding war with their Manchester rivals it would well be worth those on Merseyside focusing first on the areas that need significant improvement, at the back in and in the No.9 role.
