No one noticed Neville’s reaction when Souness said: ‘Liverpool are in a great place’

Liverpool started as they mean to go on in the Premier League this season with a thumping 4-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane (2) and Daniel Sturridge fired the Reds to the top of the table, where they hope to challenge Manchester City for the title.

If any team can go head-to-head with the reigning Premier League champions it’s Liverpool and Gary Neville believes Pep Guardiola’s men will feel threatened.

“I think Liverpool are the side [City] will feel threatened by directly,” said Neville on his podcast. “Certainly in terms of the style of play, Liverpool have got the measure of City.

“City like to push up the pitch, the centre-backs play high and even push in when they’re attacking. Mane, Salah, [Roberto] Firmino, if you leave space in-behind, they just cut right through you.

“People are not feeling that way about Manchester United or Tottenham or Chelsea at this moment in time, because of what has happened in pre-season.

“But there does seem to be a definite threat from Liverpool at this moment in time, but Liverpool will have to prove that.”

Only time will tell whether Liverpool truly have what it takes to match City, but another man who seems confident is club legend Graeme Souness.

Following the Arsenal-City game on Sky Sports, Souness explained how his former employers “are in a great place” right now.

And even though Neville agrees, he couldn’t help but react by pulling a funny face to those behind the scenes. Check it out in the video below.

So cheeky. Hardly anyone noticed Neville’s reaction to Souness’ comments but clearly it was the Manchester United fan coming out in him.

Neville had just better hope Souness and Liverpool don’t have the last laugh.
