Many European clubs are interested in signing RB Leipzig defensive midfielder Naby Keita after a phenomenal breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, according to reports
As per Goal, this includes Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp turning his attention to the dynamic player as he looks to add to his squad ahead of 2017/18.
Capable of operating both as a central midfielder or in a more progressive role further attack, Keita has been compared to Chelsea and France star N’Golo Kante.
The man named Guinean footballer of the year in 2015 has played 20 games in the German top flight so far, bagged four goals and assisting a further seven, garnering attention from around Europe.
As well as being a goal threat, the Guinea international averages 2.7 tackles and 2.7 interceptions per Bundesliga game. For comparison, the Reds skipper Jordan Henderson’s similar figures are 3.7 and 1.7, but he has netted just one EPL goal and assisted four more.
The 22-year-old previously confirmed interest from Merseyside giants.
“Liverpool…Arsenal, Manchester City and Southampton were all interested in signing me [but] I want to prove myself in the Bundesliga first.” Keita told reporters.
Liverpool’s’ 4-3-3 system this term has required a pair of box-to-box midfielders and Leipzig star could take up a similar role to Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum providing a balance between defence and attack.
Joining the German club in the summer from RedBull Salzburg for £13million, the 22-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2020.
