Just when Liverpool needed him most, Mohamed Salah scored a stunner to end his goal drought and secure an important victory over Southampton on Friday.
Southampton had taken an early lead at St Mary’s through Shane Long before Naby Keita equalised in the 36th minute.
As time wore on it looked like Liverpool would have to settle for a draw, but with 10 minutes remaining, Salah weaved his magic to win the game.
From a Southampton corner, Jordan Henderson knocked the ball down for Salah to run the length of the pitch and finish with unerring accuracy.
Angus Gunn was motionless as Salah curled an inch-perfect strike into the bottom-right corner that kissed the post on its way in.
A rare goal from Henderson then made it 3-1 to move Liverpool back above Manchester City in the Premier League table.
But it was all about Salah, who hadn’t scored in nine games heading into the game against the Saints.
Liverpool fans were starting to wonder if the Egypt international would ever end his drought, but there was never any doubt really.
Salah’s winner was his 18th goal in the Premier League this season, which finds him second in the top goalscorer’s chart behind Sergio Aguero (19).
It could be hugely important in the title race, which is why a video has been made pairing Salah’s strike with – you guessed it – Titanic music.
It just makes it so much better.
