Trawling through European transfer rumours on a daily basis, we come across some interesting claims, some more believable than others.
When we spotted a Belgian website claiming that Liverpool were interested in bringing Anderlecht’s Frank Acheampong to Anfield, we decided to take a closer look at the source, which seem to originate from Ghana.
As far as we can see, the first article mentioning this story appears to be a very short one on Football Ghana on Monday, stating the player has been in impressive form for his club and could move to Jurgen Klopp’s side in the upcoming transfer window.
We’ll take this with a pinch of salt, for now, but this isn’t the first time the player has been linked with a move to England.
Before Liverpool, Acheampong was linked with a move to Sunderland back in November ,while a transfer to Newcastle was also touted back in July.
The 23-year-old, usually deployed as a left-winger, has had to spend most of the season in an unfamiliar position, covering at left-back, due to the club’s lack of depth in defence.
Still, Acheampong has been a very important player for the Belgian side this season, already making 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and picking up five assists.
It’s a long way from that to finding a place in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side.
The wide man was didn’t take part in his side’s 0-0 draw to Club Brugge at the weekend, having had to come off with an injury in their 3-2 loss to AS Saint-Etienne in the Europa League last week.
