Liverpool managed to overcome an early deficit to beat Southampton 3-1 on Friday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side knew they needed a win to keep the pressure on Manchester City as they search for their first Premier League title.
But they got off to an awful start as Shane Long netted after just nine minutes to give the home side a shock lead.
Liverpool managed to restore parity before half-time when Naby Keita headed home to score his first goal for the club.
The Reds continued to attack throughout the second half but, as time when on, it looked more and more likely that they would be dropping points.
But, with 10 minutes to go, Mohamed Salah scored a tremendous solo effort to give Liverpool the lead.
And Jordan Henderson then made the points safe as he tapped home from a Roberto Firmino cross.
Many Liverpool players made their return to St Mary’s on the night.
Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane all featured in the game for Liverpool, having played for Southampton earlier on in their careers.
Mane will know most of Southampton’s players having been at the club for two seasons.
And he was involved with a rather awkward incident with Maya Yoshida.
With the scores 1-1 in the 76th minute, Yan Valery went down under a challenge in the box.
Sadio Mane went over to check on him but when he made contact with Yoshida, the Japanese defender took exception.
He looked as if he was going to start on Mane but stopped himself after realising it was his former teammate.
