LIVERPOOL are prepared to pay whatever it takes to sign Virgil van Dijk.
The Southampton star is a top target for Jurgen Klopp and he bids to strengthen his defence.
But Liverpool have been met with stubborn resistance by Saints, who are refusing to sell the Dutch centre-back.
Van Dijk wants a move but that’s not altered the club’s stance.
The Telegraph report Liverpool would ‘spend whatever it takes’ to sign Van Dijk – if he became available.
They could wait until January or next summer though if Southampton continue to dig in.
Saints star Steven Davis insists talk of a potential Van Dijk departure has not disrupted things at St Mary’s.
He said: “There has been a lot made of the situation outside the club that isn’t necessarily true all the time but we will welcome him back.
“He’s a top quality player and he’s done well for us over the last couple of seasons.
“Everybody knows the quality that Virgil has got and what he can bring to the team and we’re obviously hopeful that we can keep hold of him and he can come back into the team and challenge for a place again because he’s a top quality centre half.”
