LIVERPOOL are prepared to rival Arsenal for Karim Benzema this summer. Real Madrid are ready to offload the 30-year-old striker, who has endured a torrid season.
Benzema has struggled in front of goal, and with Real planning to overhaul their frontline, the Frenchman faces the axe.
Zinedine Zidane has fought his compatriot’s corner, but president Florentino Perez is claimed to be selling him whether the manager remains in charge or not.
Arsenal have long been linked with a move for Benzema as Arsene Wenger is a fan. But Liverpool have emerged as surprise contenders for his signature.
And according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Jurgen Klopp would want to add Benzema to his armoury if he is available at a good price.
The Reds boss would apparently pay up to £35m at the end of the season.
Klopp is said to believe he can get the best back out of Benzema in the Premier League. And the main motivation behind signing the ex-Lyon star is forming a potentially potent partnership with Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool want to keep their star winger and top goalscorer at all costs, especially following the loss of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
And Don Balon add Klopp sees the experienced Benzema as an ideal complement for Salah in his attack.
Benzema would be interested in joining, although if he had equal offers from Arsenal and Liverpool to choose from, London is claimed to be the preferred destination as one of his favourite cities to live in.
