LIVERPOOL will not be put off their pursuit of Nicolo Barella despite interest from other European giants, according to reports.
Reports in Sardinia suggest Jurgen Klopp will step up the chase for the Cagliari star even though Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also after Barella’s signature.
Liverpool have been keen on the 21-year-old for some time though the midfielder is reported to favour a move to Inter as he looks to remain in Serie A. But Sardinia based newspaper La Nuova Sardegna report that Klopp will ramp up his pursuit as the season draws to a close.
It is believed Barella would set Liverpool back around £40million though the Reds are in the market for a new midfielder with Emre Can set to leave Anfield.
The German is yet to sign a new deal at the club with Juventus keen on taking him to Italy.
Naby Keita is already confirmed to make the move to Merseyside when the transfer window reopens though Klopp is keen to add more strength in depth.
That would allow the German to make the midfield three a more solid base behind the dynamic trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Barella is an Under 21 international for Italy and has spent his whole career at Cagliari.
He did have a brief spell on loan at Serie B Como before establishing himself in the first XI at Rossoblu.
