Liverpool star plays like this Barcelona player: He offers something different – Molby

LIVERPOOL star Adam Lallana plays in a similar way to Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta

That is the view of former Liverpool player Jan Molby.

Lallana has been one of the standout players for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season and has so far contributed seven league goals.

The England international struggled to meet expectations following his 2014 move from Southampton.

But Klopp’s high-pressing style of play and counter-attacking football has seen Lallana reap the rewards going forward.

And Molby reckons Lallana offers something different to Liverpool in attack and believes he plays a similar role to Spaniard Iniesta.

“Of all the midfield players we have, Adam Lallana is definitely different,” he told Liverpool’s website.

“He has, without any shadow of a doubt, turned out to be the key midfield player.

“What Adam Lallana is, and maybe some people won’t see this, is he’s a playmaker.

“He’s not a playmaker who sits back and dictates play; he’s a bit like Iniesta, he’s that 15 yards further forward where he dictates the direction and the tempo of the play.

“He’s been very impressive, he’s been very, very important – so important that I make him our key player.

“Now, when Adam Lallana is on the ball and he manipulates himself into a situation where he can do something, you’re almost on the edge of your seat, you think something is going to happen.”

Lallana was rested for Liverpool’s FA Cup win over Plymouth on Wednesday night but is expected to return to the starting line-up against Swansea tomorrow (12.30pm).
