LIVERPOOL are reportedly eyeing a £22million swoop for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri.
Liverpool have had problems at left-back for several years with James Milner acting as a makeshift defender last season and Alberto Moreno watching on from the sidelines.
In the summer, Liverpool spent £10million signing Andy Robertson from Hull but the Scotland full-back has made only three starts this term.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has received heavy criticism for not investing in defenders and improving the personnel, especially in light of last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham.
But reports in Italy suggest Klopp may now be looking to make additions in the new year.
Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Nicolo Schira tweeted: “Liverpool for January points #EmersonPalmieri of #Roma.

“Ready [with] 25 million euro [offer] and contract until 2022.”
Kop legend Phil Thompson took a swipe at the club for failing to address the problems in defence.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “We were all devastated after Sunday’s game because all our frailties were exposed by Spurs.
“What disappoints everyone is that those issues haven’t been rectified in recent years.
“I said all summer that if we signed Virgil van Dijk, he was never going to be the answer to all our problems.
“Yes, he’s superb and would make us better, but he’s not a talker, he’s not an aggressive player. We needed two centre-backs.
“Joel Matip was the only member of the back five at Wembley against Spurs, who wasn’t part of Brendan Rodgers’ reign.
“Problems that occurred back then still haven’t been sorted out. There’s actually less cover at centre-back now than last season with Lucas Leiva having gone. He would always do a job.”
