Liverpool have organised for Sadio Mane to return to England via private jet on Sunday, following Senegal’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night.
The Liverpool attacker missed the deciding penalty in a shootout in the AFCON quarter-final against Cameroon on Sunday.
Mane looked dejected as he left the pitch after missing the crucial fifth spot kick, so Jurgen Klopp will now need to help the elimination not affect the player’s confidence.
Mind you, considering how badly Liverpool have performed in Mane’s absence throughout January, returning back to Melwood with his confidence shattered will mean he’s on board with the rest of his team mates.
Owners FSG have reportedly organised a private jet to ensure his speedy return to England.
It does, however, seem unlikely he’ll be ready to start the match, with a subs role seeming more likely.
Nonetheless, Senegal’s elimination and Mane’s subsequent return is a boost for Liverpool who could have been without him for the Chelsea game and next weekend’s trip to Hull City had Senegal progressed further.
