Liverpool are reportedly targeting Xherdan Shaqiri instead of Lyon’s Nabil Fekir, according to ESPN. Shaqiri is set to leave current club Stoke City this summer following on from their relegation from the Premier League.
A number of clubs are said to have been weighing up a move for the Switzerland international, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are the ones leading the chase.
Reports state that the Shaqiri’s brother and agent met with Liverpool officials last week to discuss a possible move. The Swiss midfielder is said to have a release cause of just £13.5 million, making him an attractive target for many clubs.
The Reds are extra keen on signing the 26-year-old after negotiations with Lyon over signing Fekir recently broke down. The Ligue 1 club recently broke off transfer negotiations with Liverpool regarding the transfer of Fekir, and the Reds have prioritised Shaqiri as the perfect alternative.
Despite the Stoke’s poor season, Shaqiri enjoyed a relatively successful campaign on a personal level, bagging eight goals and seven assists.
