Liverpool are interested in signing AS Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes, according to Tutto Mercato
The former Argentina youth international has struggled for regular minutes in Serie A this season, making just ten league starts, and has subsequently been linked with a summer departure.
As noted in the report, the Reds have been linked with a potential €25 million move for the Roma man. With Lucas reportedly on the way to Galatasaray, this summer and Emre Can’s future still up in the air. the Merseyside club will have at least one vacancy to fill in midfield, and it appears that Jurgen Klopp has already identified a possible replacement.
When asked about his role models back in 2015 Paredes told reporters: “Riquelme is my idol. Totti is also a great player, and I have learned a lot from both of them.”
Here is a look at what Paredes would potentially bring to the Premier League if a deal were to be done further down the line:
Given Roma boss Luciano Spalletti has options aplenty in midfield—the likes of Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman and Daniele De Rossi are all battling for positions in the hub of the team—it’s no great surprise that Paredes has been on the fringes of the starting XI.
After impressing on loan at Empoli last term, Paredes may have hoped to be more involved in the first team this season, especially after the summer sale of Miralem Pjanic to Juventus. However, it looks unlikely Liverpool will offer him a chance to get on the field on a much more frequent basis.
