Liverpool target Zeca is set to take Brazilian club Santos to court in a bid to get his contract cancelled.
The 23-year-old defender has mounted a legal claim against Santos that alleges he is owed money and has been threatened by fans.
And Liverpool could resurrect their interest in Zeca if he wins his case.
The Reds were monitoring Zeca a year ago – but pulled the plug because the Brazil Under-21 international was not eligible for a work permit. But the left-back landed himself an Italian passport in the summer and is now eligible for a move to Europe.
His legal issues with Santos have now put the Merseysiders on alert. Zeca, who helped Brazil win gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, became Public Enemy No.1 amongst Santos fans when he took to Instagram to criticise them.
His lawyer is claiming that the player is unhappy that Santos have not provided him with enough security and that they have also contractual obligations over money.
A court hearing has been set for April, but Santos have hinted that they will not stand in Zeca’s way if he can line up a transfer before then.
The Sao Paulo-based club are ready to cut a deal at around £2million to get rid of the problem now rather than risk losing Zeca for nothing in the summer.
