NEWCASTLE are keen to snap up Angers winger Nicolas Pepe – but Everton and Liverpool are now reportedly shock contenders for his signature.
The Toon have been eyeing the 21-year-old ace who has impressed in Ligue 1 this term.
But their raid on the French outfit could be derailed the Merseyside rivals, according to L’Equipe.
It’s suggested Pepe could be available for just £8.5m.
Everton are in the market for a new winger following Gerard Deulofeu’s departure to AC Milan.
But Liverpool are well stocked with attacking options and would probably view Pepe as a star for the future.
Toon chief Rafa Benitez has been linked with a host of stars as he eyes promotion back to the Premier League.
If Pepe were to quit France for England, he might get more first-team opportunities on Tyneside.
But if either Liverpool or Everton come calling, the lure of immediate top-flight football would undoubtedly be attractive.
Pepe has played 25 games for Angers, scoring one goal.
