According to Football Insider, Liverpool have opened talks with youngster Paul Glatzel over a new contract.
The striker captained the Reds’ under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory last season, eventually played for the under-23s.
Glatzel is a potent finisher and bagged an extraordinary 29 goals in the 2018/19 season alone, shining alongside Bobby Duncan, who has joined Fiorentina on a permanent deal.
During pre-season, the Liverpool youngster suffered a major setback against Tranmere Rovers, however, picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Is Paul Glatzel the next big thing?
The teenager is definitely a huge prospect for the future – he is quick, nimble and lethal in front of goal.
Glatzel will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, though, so patience will be required, much in the same vein as Joe Gomez ands Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, both of whom have had long-term absences.
He formed an exquisite partnership with former Duncan, so it will be interesting to see how he fares without his partner in crime.
Liverpool are superb at bringing in homegrown talent – Glatzel is a scouser and will hope that he can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
