Liverpool were ousted from the EFL Cup last night by Southampton. The Saints deservedly qualified for the final after brilliant performances in both the semi final legs.
The Reds have been horrific since the turn of the year. They have only managed to win just one game this month. Not to forget, they needed two attempts to beat a weak Plymouth side.
Jurgen Klopp must reinforce the team before the winter transfer window closes and reports are once again linking him with a move for German international and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Julian Brandt.
Two days back, Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce claimed that Klopp is a huge fan of the 20-year-old attacker and wanted to sign him this month. However, the Bundesliga club have not been willing to let him leave and Jurgen is expected to try again next summer.
On the other hand, The Guardian published a slightly different report yesterday. They stated that the Merseysiders are most likely to spend before the transfer window’s closure next week and Klopp has one eye on Julian Brandt.
The former Wolfsburg youth player can play anywhere in the attacking third and he has already featured in over 100 games for Bayer Leverkusen. This season, in 17 league appearances, Julian has directly contributed in 8 goals (2 goals and 6 assists).
Earlier this month, German source SportBild reported that the Bundesliga side want the same fee for Brandt that Schalke got for selling Leroy Sane to Manchester City i.e €50million.
