Liverpool legend thinks Klopp has made a serious mistake

Like most Liverpool fans, Jan Molby would have liked Jurgen Klopp to enter the transfer market during the January transfer window.

Despite the squad being hit with injuries and Sadio Mane missing a number of games at the AFCON, Liverpool’s boss decided there was nothing of value worth pursuing and didn’t bring anyone in.

We won just one of our nine fixtures last month, which many believe is evidence to suggest a new face would have been highly beneficial.

Molby, who represented Liverpool so brilliantly in the 1980s, is one of them.

The Dane told the Liverpool Echo: “I’d have liked us to have made a signing in January. Sometimes you’re just treading water a little bit and you need something to kick-start your season again.

“We didn’t but now we go into a period of 15 games in 15 weeks which should suit us. In terms of the squad, Jurgen Klopp’s shown a lot of patience but I think it’s important to him.

“When he makes decisions he likes to be able to look the player in the eye and say ‘I gave you every opportunity’.

“So we look forward to the summer. Klopp will never be a chequebook manager but there will be some new players coming in that’s for sure.”

This summer we expect serious additions because we’re likely to be playing European football of some description – hopefully the Champions League.

We’re currently in a fight with both Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Spurs for three spots behind leaders Chelsea – and are in as good a position as any to obtain one considering the squad’s now healthy and we have no cup distractions.

The extra time on the training field between matches will also benefit Liverpool, with Klopp’s side having a much better record when allowed a break ahead of games.
