Liverpool leading race for versatile star: Champions League football could tempt him to Anfield

LIVERPOOL are reportedly leading the chase for Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, is about to enter the final 12 months of his Gunners contract.

And, it’s believed that, he his ready to quit the club after six years in north London.

They claim Liverpool are set to test Arsenal’s resolve by lodging a bid for the England international.

Champions League football will return to Anfield next season after Jurgen Klopp guided the Reds to a fourth-place finish in his first full season on Merseyside.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain could reportedly be tempted by the prospect of playing in Europe’s premier club competition.

However, the report suggest Liverpool’s initial approach could spark a bidding war for the former Southampton man.

Arsenal are also said to be reluctant to let Oxlade-Chamberlain, apparently valued at around £20m, leave the Emirates.

But they may have little choice but to cash-in on the midfielder rather than risk losing him on a free next summer.

The Gunners parted with around £12m to sign him from Saints in 2011.

He struggled to make much of an impact for Arsene Wenger’s side this term, scoring just twice in 29 top flight appearances.
