Liverpool key star praises Jurgen Klopp for his new role at club

LIVERPOOL talisman Philippe Coutinho has paid homage to manager Jurgen Klopp for helping him enhance his all-round game.

The Brazil international was benched for the Merseyside derby at the weekend, much to the dismay of most Reds supporters.

Just four days previously he had put on a scintillating display against Spartak Moscow, bagging his first ever Liverpool hat-trick.

But Coutinho believes he has benefited from Klopp’s decision to move him from the left of a front three to a deeper central role.

“He’s helped me a lot,” Coutinho said.

“I think the way he’s helped me to play when we don’t have the ball when the team is under pressure is really different.

“We’ve changed how we play. We’ve tried to switch to a different style.

“I think that bit by bit I’m getting better with that and hopefully that can continue.”

Coutinho believes his new role allows him to influence a match to a far greater degree.

“I’m now in a deeper position and I’m always trying to improve and be able to score goals and set off moves because my position demands it,” he added.

“I think playing there is a position where you get to play the ball a great deal.

“You become more involved in the game. It’s a position that I feel that I’ve adapted to and I like it.”

The former Inter star top-scored for the Liverpool in all competitions last season.

And the long-term Barcelona transfer target has netted nine times already this season.

Coutinho will be looking to add to that tally when Klopp’s side take on West Brom at Anfield tonight (8.00).
