Liverpool interested in signing £43m-rated technically-gifted playmaker

Real Madrid whizzkid Marco Asensio has emerged as a target for Arsenal and Liverpool, after a brilliant breakthrough season at the Bernabeu in which he scored their first and last goals.

According to reports from Diario Gol, the Premier League duo have made enquiries about Asensio’s availability and it’s also rumoured that Juventus are keen on the attacking midfielder.

The 21-year-old scored ten goals last season in all competitions and rounded off his campaign with the final goal against the Serie A winners in the Champions League final – with Los Blancos believed to see him as a key part of their future.

It looks very likely that James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata are set to leave this summer which should in theory, give Asensio some more game time.

Nonetheless, the lure of first-team football in England is one which could steer the £43m-rated Spanish international towards the Premier League but he is also angling towards a new contract at Madrid, keeping him in Spain for the foreseeable.

What is clear at this stage, though, is that it looks set to be a straight battle between Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger to snare the former Mallorca graduate. Both managers have broken their clubs’ respective transfer records already this summer and it’s difficult to see either of them stopping their spend.

Liverpool perhaps hold the upper hand in the respect they can offer Champions League football next term for Asensio but the opportunity to ply your trade under the stewardship of Wenger is one that can’t be taken lightly.
