Liverpool suffered a huge blow last month when it was revealed that Virgil van Dijk had torn his ACL.
The Dutchman sustained the injury after a rash challenge from Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby.
The Reds are now extremely light when it comes to options at centre-back.
They were forced to give Nat Phillips his first Premier League start when they hosted West Ham on Saturday evening.
While he performed admirably, Jurgen Klopp will try to buy a replacement for Van Dijk in January.
Ozan Kabak and Ben White are too names that have been linked with the club.
Now another name has emerged and it’s one that Klopp knows well.
Klopp is said to be ‘impressed’ with the 20-year-old’s display in Liverpool’s recent Champions League game against the Dutch giants.
The Dutch centre-back is very composed on the ball and has been likened to a ‘young Van Dijk’.
And Klopp has also seen first-hand what he is capable of.
Schuurs was on trial at Liverpool in 2018 when he was playing for Fortuna Sittard.
Klopp was said to be impressed by the then 17-year-old but it was believed he was better served continuing his development in Holland.
He went on to join Ajax later that year and he is now a regular having filled the void left by Matthijs de Ligt’s departure.
GIVEMESPORT’S JAMES STROUD SAYS:
Schurrs is a very talented defender. He showed that when Liverpool struggled to beat Ajax in the Champions League earlier this year.
In my view, he would be a better option than both Kabak and White in January.
At 20 years old, he has many, many years at the top of the game. Despite his age he’s already very experienced, having made 112 appearances at club level.
He’s already been called up to the Dutch national side and he’s shown he can perform at the highest level in the Champions League.
And, although a price is not mentioned by the Mirror, I imagine he will be a cheaper option than Kabak and White, who are both valued at around £40m.
