LIVERPOOL have entered the race to sign £9m-rated defender Fabian Schar.
But they could be forced to wait until next summer to nab him with Hoffenheim unwilling to sell in January.
Schar, who was once on Arsenal’s radar, is a Swiss international and is also wanted by Inter Milan.
But Liverpool sent scouts to watch him in action for his national team against Hungary and Andorra.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has admired Schar since the 24-year-old’s time at Basel, where he won the Swiss league three times in a row.
He is under contract until 2019 but Liverpool are confident a deal can be agreed.
Schar has played for Switzerland at the London Olympics, World Cup 2014 and Euro 2016.
He joined German club Hoffenheim in June 2015 in a £5m transfer despite interest from several other clubs.
