Liverpool are pushing strongly to sign Bayer Leverkusen sensation Julian Brandt in the summer, according to a report.
The Sun claim the Merseyside giants are in advanced talks to sign the Bundesliga winger during the next transfer window.
It is said that contact between Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Brandt is “strong” as the Premier League club close in on what would be a landmark deal.
The Sun report that “Klopp has a £25million cheque ready to write for the Bayer Leverkusen winger”, who is the German manager’s main priority as he sets about strengthening his squad during the summer.
But Brandt needs to be convinced that he would be a regular starter in Klopp’s side next season, as he does not want to sign and then be a squad man.
Liverpool were strongly linked with Brandt in January but Leverkusen were unwilling to sell the emerging star.
Chelsea and Manchester City have also made moves for the Germany international in the past but were knocked back.
The left-sided attacking midfielder has earned rave reviews for his performances for Leverkusen, with his 33 matches this season yielding three goals and seven assists.
Brandt, who has been capped five times by the senior Germany team, has already made 126 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit despite his tender age, scoring 19 goals and supplying 23 assists in all competitions.
The youngster, who joined Leverkusen from Wolfsburg in 2014, is currently contracted until 2019 but reports in Germany suggest he has a release clause of around £17million which could be activated in 2018.
However, it appears increasingly likely the Reds are set to test the Bundesliga outfit’s resolve come the summer.
There will be stiff competition with Bayern Munich among those clubs also linked with trying to win the youngster’s signature.
