LIVERPOOL are on the trail of Porto central defender Chidozie Awaziem.
The Nigeria international, 20, broke into the Primeira Liga club’s first team last season.
He has been an ever-present for their reserve side in the second division this term.
And a Kop scout reportedly spoke with Awaziem at Nigeria’s friendly clash with Senegal at Barnet last month, when the defender was an unused sub as the sides drew 1-1.
Nigerian and Portuguese media claim Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp plans to continue monitoring the youngster’s progress.
Awaziem’s advisor Babawo Mohammed said: “I’m not aware of any meeting with a scout from Liverpool.
“But this is football, where anything can happen – especially when you are talking about a player who has all it takes to be a star in the not too distant future.
“Awaziem is a good player, but he belongs to FC Porto. I know contact was made with some teams in England.”
Born in Enugu, the defender joined Porto in 2014 from El-Kameni Warriors.
He has since made 10 senior appearances for the 27-times national champions.
