Liverpool hero Gerrard: I find it an “absolute pleasure” to watch this Barcelona star play

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard claims that Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer there’s ever been and ever will be after his two goals in Barcelona‘s win over Celtic.

The Argentinian is currently the top scorer in both La Liga and the Champions League this season, with eight and nine goals in the respective competitions.

Speaking to BT Sport, Gerrard chose the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as the best player in the history of the game.

Gerrard said: “He’s an incredible footballer. The best ever, the best there will ever be. It’s just an absolute pleasure to watch him.”

Gerrard was speaking after Messi scored a goal either side of half-time in his side’s 2-0 victory over Celtic at Celtic Park in their fifth Champions League Group C fixture.

During his illustrious career, the 29-year-old has won four Champions Leagues, eight La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys and three FIFA Club World Cups, as well as being Barcelona and Argentina’s all-time top scorer.

He’s also led his national team to three Copa America finals, as well as the 2014 World Cup final, a tournament in which he was named the best player.

Meanwhile Gerrard recently turned down the opportunity to become manager of MK Dons, which would’ve been his first venture into management after deciding to leave MLS side LA Galaxy after two years.
